Flipboku Apollo AR 1.02

This augmented reality (AR) app serves as a complementary feature for the Apollo 11 Flip Book Edition, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. Published by Flipboku in 2019, this special edition was brought to life with the support of 1,483 backers via Kickstarter.

The edition includes two flip books: Volume 1 showcases the iconic footage of the Apollo 11 journey, capturing various stages of the mission, while Volume 2 highlights the most complex and significant maneuvers with animated recreations based on NASA’s original artwork.

Each flip book presents 12 distinct sequences (six in each volume) that can be activated through a simple thumb movement. Moreover, the flip book sleeves are enhanced with a selection of 3D model spacecraft from the Apollo 11 mission, accessible through this AR app.

How to Use the App:

• Select your preferred model from the main menu and position the corresponding flip book slipcase in front of your camera.

In Volume 1 - The Iconic Footage, users can interact with a 3D model of the Saturn V rocket—the largest rocket ever built. Activating this animation reveals the separation sequence of its various stages (note: there is no sound).

Volume 2 - The Animated Journey allows users to explore the configuration of the Command and Service Module attached to the Lunar Module. Upon activation, it displays a recreation of the Transposition and Docking maneuver, executed in Earth orbit just after launch and before heading to the moon (note: there is no sound).

The Anniversary Sleeve features a golden embossed design depicting the lunar module. Activating its animated sequence recreates the final seconds of the moon landing, accompanied by real audio transmitted between the lunar module and NASA at that pivotal moment.

Additionally, each model provides supplementary content within its menu, offering extended information about the construction of each spacecraft along with videos featuring actual mission footage from NASA's archives.

Important:

• It is advisable to avoid sudden movements with either your phone or the slipcases. If you encounter difficulties activating any models, gently adjust your smartphone's position and pause intermittently until visualization is successful.
